John Kaldeway is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA). The Authority manages and operates Toronto Pearson International Airport.
Mr. Kaldeway is an experienced airport executive with a career of more than 30 years in the aviation industry. Mr. Kaldeway has been with the GTAA since the airport's transfer in December 1996 and had previously held several positions within Transport Canada both at Toronto Pearson and in Ottawa. Prior to being appointed President and CEO in October 2004, Mr. Kaldeway was the GTAA's Chief Operating Officer responsible for the day-to-day operation of Toronto Pearson.
Mr. Kaldeway joined Transport Canada Headquarters in Ottawa in 1974 in the internal Management Consulting Division, transferring to the Airports Directorate in 1982 where he was responsible for Management/Operations Reviews and Operating Budget Management of Canadian Airports. In 1986 he was appointed Special Assistant to the Executive Director, Airports Directorate, Ottawa.
In 1988, Mr. Kaldeway moved to Toronto to take on the position of Assistant to the Airport General Manager. Having estab-lished his expertise in airport operations, he was promoted to Director, Airport Operations in 1991. With an opportunity to expand his horizons, in 1994/95 Mr. Kaldeway took a one year assignment as Project Director, Southern Ontario Area Airports Study under Transport Canada's Ontario Regional Directorate. This study reviewed the operating potential of some 19 smaller airports in Southern Ontario.
When the GTAA assumed responsibility for Toronto Pearson, Mr. Kaldeway was confirmed as the GTAA Director of Operations and then once again promoted, in March 1999, to Vice President, Operations & Maintenance. In February 2002, he assumed responsibility for the commissioning of and transition to the new Terminal 1 and other new projects as Vice President Transition Programs.
Mr. Kaldeway is certified as a Professional Member of the International Association of Airport Executives. In addition, he is an active participant with the Airports Council International (ACI) having served as Chair of the North American Technical Committee, and also as Chair of the World Technical/Safety Standing Committee of ACI in Geneva from 2002 to 2004.
